Socrates Paper   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The duty between a citizen and the law and vice versa has been a challenging question that many individuals have been trying to answer for centuries. Throughout history many philosophers, historians, writers etc. have tried and to some extent in their best opinion come up with an answer. Plato, who through Socratic dialogues of the human soul provides a window for understanding the nature of the state, made one such attempt.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  In his famous dialogue, the Apology, which is a defense of the charges made on Socrates, he compares himself to a gadfly, â€Å"†¦. as upon a great noble horse which was somewhat sluggish because of its size and needed to be stirred up by a kind of gadfly.† (Apology 30e) In this passage the Athenian state is the lazy horse, which is liable to drift into a deep sleep, but through his influence- irritating as it may be to some- it can be wakened into a state with productive and virtuous action. As the reader can see that the citizen also has to help the State by teaching individuals what is right and wrong. If either the State or the citizens do not do their job then it is the duty of the other to make aware of them and wake them up from this temporary sleep.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  After the trial of the Socrates where he was found guilty and sentenced to death comes another great work of Plato, the Crito, where Socrates friend Crito has come to the prison cell to persuade him to run away and not drink the poison. In this dialogue Socrates provides two very good analogies on the relationship between the State and the citizens.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The first one is that there is a â€Å"social contract† between the citizens and the Law. This contract has been validated since the birth of an individual. Abortion means the loss of a fetus before it is able to live outside the womb of a mother. It is a relatively simple and safe procedure when done by trained medical workers during the first three months of pregnancy. It is less safe when performed after the 13th week of pregnancy. Abortion is done intentionally and unintentionally especially that woman who is not ready to become a mother. Several women now engaged in doing the abortion process especially those who are unwed mothers, students who engaged in drugs, rape victims, and those mothers who have more kids in the family and cant afford to sustain the needs of their children they are not conscious of the consequences in doing that act. Some will put to danger that lead to infections and caused death of many of them. Adventures of Huckleberry Finn is a great novel by Mark Twain. Huckleberry Finn is a thirteen or fourteen year old, but is often called Huck Finn by his best friends. Throughout we’re told of Huckleberrys adventures after he staged his own death and ran away from his father. The story is narrated by Huckleberry Finn over approximately 3-4 months, although it’s not noted in the story. Huckleberry goes to various towns that lie close by the Mississippi River. Mark Twain stated that the book is supposed to happen about fifty years before the publication of the Civil War which stood between 1835 until 1845. Jim is a runaway slave who ran away from Miss Watson the same night that Huckleberry staged his death because of that he’s blamed for†¦show more content†¦The best example is how his vision of Jim changed. Both Jim and Huckleberry are runaways and have come across a lot of problems in their lives which had a huge effect. They are both running away from ba d environment and looking for a better life, which obviously turned out much more difficult for Jim than Huckleberry because he was black which often indicated he must be a slave. Especially when he was sold by the Duke and the King, who really had huge effects on Huckleberry maturation but also were a huge prevention for Huckleberry. They were the best example for Huckleberry on what not to do. The story begins summarizing the events in the preceded novel about Tom Sawyer. As noted before in this essay, the Widow Douglas had adopted Huckleberry who’s the sister of Miss Watson, the possessor of Jim. After a playful day with his friends Huckleberry was kidnapped by his own father. Pap cursed it infinitely that he had been taught to read and write and told Huckleberry that he wouldn’t need that anymore. Pap used Huckleberry as a slave for the next days and kept him inside at all times. After a few days Huckleberry decided to run away, but he staged his own death. The ver y same night Jim ran away from Miss Watson and was therefore put a bounty on his head, it was also put a bounty on Pap.
